    Hi Friends!
This is my first post here, and I take this opportunity to say hello to everyone here. Having browsed through this forum, I can see that this definitely is the finest immigration forum around.
My wife, who is a US citizen, is filing for my immigration tomorrow, and along with it, she is also filing for my Adjustment of Status (And Advance Parole as well as Employment authorization). She would file it at the Chicago dropbox tomorrow. I am on a B2 visa here.
I would like to know how long would it take, or how long does it averagely take these days, for the AP and EAD to be processed in a case like mine.
I saw another thread about processing time of AP, but that was for AP renewal. In my case, it would be a fresh AP and EAD.
Thanks a lot to all in advance.

Immigration Lawyers Blog Has Just Posted the Following:
On April 15, 2010, the Department of Homeland Security issued the USCIS Annual Report on Characteristics of Specialty Occupation Workers (H-1B) for Fiscal Year 2009. The summary reports on information including the countries of origin, occupations, education levels, and compensation paid to those who had approved H-1B petitions in FY 2009. The report includes the following facts: approximately 48 percent of all H-1B approved workers were born in India; 41 percent were for workers in computer-related occupations; and 41 percent were for workers with a bachelors degree and 40 percent had a masters degree. To view the annual report, see http://www.uscis.gov/USCIS/Resources/Reports%20and%20Studies/H-1B/h1b-fy-09-characteristics.pdf.

I have not used AP to enter so far but I do not believe AP is related to employment and questions related to that should not be asked when entering the country if one is using AP to enter. Just IMHO

    Hi,

Can one apply for Admission in US University while one is on Visit Visa in USA ?

If yes, will he/ she get I-120 while staying in US ? or one has to leave USA to get I-120, apply for f1 visa and then come on that visa ?

    I will appreciate your answers.

    thanks,

When we file 485 AOS along with EAD & APL, these are three seperate forms, so we get three seperate receipt numbers?

    is that correct?
What abt 485 for wife? is that also another receipt notice?

    Hi,

I'm working on H1-B visa since last 6 months.
My wife is joining me on H4 visa and her H4 is approved till July'2010.

I have switched my Employer in the first month as I arrived USA and my New Employer filed my H1-B Transfer petion as regular, but still my case is in pending. But my wife's ticket is confirmed on 7th of October and she is coming to US on OCT 7th.

Two day's back my employer changed my case from Regular to Premium.

My question is that what will happen to my wife case..?? Does she need to re-apply for her H4 visa once my H1-B gets approve..?? Can she come to US with her previous stamp..??

    Thanks in advance..

    Hi All,

I am in the fourth year of mu H1b, and I need to start my GC process. My current employer is a consulting firm which provides services to a third party main client. My questions are :

    a) is this a good time to file for GC given the fact that my company falls under employer-employee relationship memo?

    b) I plan to go to India in summer and need to get my stamping. Will the new memo from USCIS affect my stamping? My current h1b expires in sept 2011.

    c) If I apply for my GC before going to India in summer, does it affect point b ?

Thanks to anyone who can answer my questions.

    Ricky

Those who follow immigration politics closely know that the finding in a new America's Voice Bendixen poll of 1,100 Hispanic voters that more than 3/4 consider immigration to be a major issue for them is true. But for many anti-immigrant members of Congress, there's a case of wishful thinking going on - that Hispanic voters only consider immigration a minor issue and will vote on other issues instead. Or an even less realistic assumption that Latino voters actually feel the same way as them and want to see immigration reform fail. That thinking failed miserably in 2006 and 2008 as...

I'm back from Spain and as you can see from the flurry of posts from last night and this morning, I'm catching up on some of the items I wanted to note in the blog. Some of you commented about today's Immigrants of the Day already, but it's worth recognizing them in a separate post. Chinese-born Charles Kao was recognized for his contributions to the development of fiber optic technology. He has worked in academia and in the private sector over the years including working at Yale and ITT Corporation. Canadian-born Willard Boyle was cited for "the invention of an...

My friend John Lamb in Nashville blogs today about ICE's Hutto detention center where whole families are jailed while awaiting deportation. I'm reminded of Charles Dickens' tales of debtors prisons in Victorian England where "lawbreakers" who violated British laws relating to debt were jailed right along with their spouses and children. It's hard for me to tell the difference. I don't know that I blame CCA, the contractor that runs the center. Nor do I necessarily blame ICE which is simply carrying out their mission. The country's policymakers carrry responsiblity - senior DHS officials, White House officials, members of Congress,...
