yes. Select it, then check out the left hand panel. I believe that "layout" will have a check box which says, "show object" or something similar. This is what you use to make an object transparent.

This will only work on peices of a grouped object... not the whole group.. keep this in mind.

How's this guy's reputation? I made an appointment with him for 485 physical. Read some horrible stories here about skin test and X-ray, hence the question.

I have an Andvance Parole valid till Feb'10 end. However right now am in India and wish to stay back even after the AP expiry. In this scenario is it good to apply for renewal AP from India or is it advisable to return back to US and then apply for AP?

Does any one provide how much time it takes for the renewal if I apply for AP from India. Do I need to give the India address for delivery? I have some one in US who can recieve the AP by mail and can send it by post to India. Is this an advisable?

Daily Kos and Talking Points Memo each link to my post from Friday. Zackary Roth at TCM also checked with additional immigration lawyers in South Carolina who had similar reports to the ones with whom I spoke. And not to stray too far from the more important question, my friend Marshall Fitz at the Center for American Progress has a new piece refuting the lie that illegally present immigrants are covered by health care reform proposals.

I have a few questions regarding my H1B and I-140 since I am planning to change my employer.

    1) If I change my employer, can my old employer retain my I-140? If he retains my I-140 and in case if the GC dates become current can I switch back to my old employer along with H1 and get my GC through old employer? Will this situation involves complications?

    2) After my H1B transfer is approved with new company, when can I go for H1b stamping? Can I go immediately or wait for 1 month or so, in order to run 2 pay checks with the new company?

    3) I had my initial H1B visa stamped from Bahamas. Can I still go to US neighboring countries to get my H1B visa stamped since mine is H1B transfer/extension and not change of status or do I have to go to India?

    4) If I have my H1B stamped with old employer, and later transfer my H1b, Will I be able to travel to India with H1B stamping from old employer or Do I need to again have my H1B stamped?

Depicting "despair" using a photo and nothing else is tough. A final in one of my photoshop classes was to make a TIME magazine cover that depicted either "despair" or "hope". It was a lot harder to do that we all originally thought.

This comes close but it could also be construed as sadness, anger, weariness, pain, etc.

As I said, that's a very tough emotion to depict in a photo without any supporting text.

By the way, I like the photo.

This is my first post. Thank you for allowing me to participate.

Just a passing thought - Would it help if members in each state meet (say on a Sunday) and come up with Strategies to mobilize more people in their respective states?
It will help the us organize better in each state. A senior member in each state would then coordinate and take strategy and activity related instructions and advice from immigrationvoice.org core members and implement those in his/her respective state.

If at all that is possible then immigrationvoice.org can maybe create statewise blogs or something that would update members in each states about upcoming activities.

My wife received Appt. letter for FP second time. It mentioned that first time FP didn't pass thru FBI check, se she need to come again at no cost. Is this normal and did it happen to any one? We are in Atlanta.

We went to second FP, not because of FBI Check though. It is normal to go to second FP. Do not worry.

I think you can do that as long as the other H1B's were not cancelled.
Talk to an Immigration Attorney about this issue.

Please I need advice. I am currently preparing to file I-140/I-485 concurrent application and do not want to include the names of my children who are US citizens on the application. This is because I do not want the name of their mom to come up since I don't want to add her name too to the application. Although we got married outside the US, and I mistakenly wrote that with her name on my B1/B2 application I still will want to file this application as single. She has some issues to clear with USCIS and I do not want to complicate matters by adding her name to my application. I truly will appreciate your advice on this matter before I submit my application. Thank you

Lawyer Prashanthi Reddy seems to be very helpful.
She was introduced to me by IV through free conference call and we are planning to use her firm to represent my case.

Everyone's experience is different. So, please do your homework.

Hope - USCIS will start disposing faster:

On July 2, 2008, a US Federal District Court in California entered an order requiring that the USCIS pay Mr. Asghar Shirmohamadali, the plaintiff in a Writ of Mandamus (WOM) law suit against the USCIS, around $25,500 in attorney fees and $1,000 in other costs incurred during the suit. In addition, the Court had previously ordered the USCIS to adjudicate Shirmohamadalis pending I-485 case within 30 days.

can anyone, who has adequate knowledge, tell me how does 485 move about in the USCIS?

I mean what happens after FP?

Do they work with your application only when the PD is current?

or they work on the application regardless of PD?

FBI namecheck starts after PD is current?

and when does a visa no. assigned?

    too many questions...any takers?
    thanks

Honey, They Shrunk the Congress (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/30/opinion/30tues4.html) By ADAM COHEN | New York Times, October 30, 2007

President Bushs nominee for attorney general, Michael Mukasey, was asked an important question about Congresss power at his confirmation hearing. If witnesses claim executive privilege and refuse to respond to Congressional subpoenas in the United States attorneys scandal as Karl Rove and Harriet Miers have done and Congress holds them in contempt, would his Justice Department refer the matter to a grand jury for criminal prosecution, as federal law requires?

Mr. Mukasey suggested the answer would be no. That was hardly his only slap-down of Congress. He made the startling claim that a president can defy laws if he or she is acting within the authority to defend the country. That is a mighty large exception to the rule that Congresss laws are supreme.

The founders wanted the peoples branch to be strong, but the Bush administration has usurped a frightening number of Congresss powers with very little resistance. The question is whether members of Congress of both parties will do anything about it.

Congress is often described as one of three coequal branches, but that is not entirely true. As Akhil Reed Amar, a Yale law professor, observed in Americas Constitution: a Biography, Article I actually makes Congress first among equals, with wide power to structure the second-mentioned executive and third-mentioned judicial branches.

Article I, which describes Congresss powers, is the Constitutions first, longest and most generously worded article. It gives Congress a wide array of specific powers, but also broad authority to pass laws that bring to life all other powers vested by this Constitution in the government of the United States, or in any department or officer thereof.

It would be hard to recognize that powerful Congress today. In part, that is because Congress has been unwilling or unable to enact laws on the most important issues facing the nation Iraq, immigration reform, health care.

Just as troubling, though, is how it has allowed its institutional power to erode. President Bush has regularly issued signing statements including on critical issues like the ban on torture that assert his right to ignore new laws at the same time as he signs them. These signing statements are not just talk. A report by the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office states that in nearly one-third of the cases it looked at, after President Bush issued a signing statement objecting to a provision of a new law, his administration did not implement it as written.

The Senate has routinely confirmed judicial nominees who make no secret of their belief that the presidents power should be sweeping, and Congresss sharply cut back.

The Senate confirmed Jeffrey Sutton to a federal appeals court judgeship even though Patrick Leahy, now the Senate Judiciary Committee chairman, observed that as a lawyer Mr. Sutton aggressively sought out cases to limit the power of Congress to enact laws protecting individual rights. It confirmed Janice Rogers Brown to the powerful United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit even though she had suggested that much of the legislation passed during the New Deal including the Social Security Act was unconstitutional.

There are things Congress can do. It can start by speaking out about the importance of Congressional power the way the administration has talked about deferring to the commander in chief. Congress should pass laws that support its own power like a bipartisan one that Senator Arlen Specter, Republican of Pennsylvania, has introduced to nullify the impact of signing statements.

The Senate should refuse to confirm nominees who do not take Congressional power seriously. And Congress should make clear that if the executive branch will not enforce its subpoenas, it will use its own inherent contempt powers to do so.

Right now, standing up for Congress may appeal more to Democrats than Republicans. The issue of reining in presidential power is beginning to gain traction among conservatives, however, as they contemplate the possibility of a Democrat particularly Hillary Clinton as president.

Defending Congressional authority should not be a partisan issue. The founders wanted a strong Congress because they understood the importance of ensuring that the most democratic branch have a strong say in how the nation is run.
